Happy Friday everybody!! I wanted to share an outfit idea with you, as I like to do from time to time. A lot of us are burned out from a long week of work or school and it’s time to unwind and relax this weekend. Maybe you even plan on getting some things done in your personal life. Regardless of what you’ve got going on, this is a great outfit.
If you’re a new reader, let me break down my outfit selection process…first, I determine my mood. Today it was fun and casual with a flair of relaxation, so I immediately thought white tee. Next, I always consider the weather report when choosing my look and based on the fact that it’s been insanely hot pretty much everywhere lately, I decided it was cool to go ahead and wear shorts. Lastly, I consider what I have going on, and since I had to run some errands and get some work done on a deadline, I had to be sure I had my laptop with me.
I’ll break down the specifics of these things below, but this is my 3 step, everyday process. Let’s get into the look!
Start Basic
A white tee is basically my uniform on hot summer days. That’s why I have about 10 different options. Some are bigger, some are longer, some are nice and snug. When it’s hot and I need to get things done, a well-fitted white tee is tough to beat. If you’re clumsy, maybe go for a darker color like navy or a charcoal grey to hide the coffee stains. White tees are acceptable at bars, parties, and just about anywhere else on an average weekend.
On the Bottom
I’m not crazy about shorts, but as I’ve been finding better quality, better fitting brands for me I’ve started to come around a lot. This pair kind of feel like athletic shorts or that material that golf clothes are made out of…you know what I mean, right? They’re extremely comfortable and on the shorter side, which I like. They pair perfectly with the tee and work for golf, lunch, and even into the evening if you’re not doing something clubby and fancy.
In terms of shoes, I opted for some white slip on sneakers as opposed to espadrilles or sandals because I knew that I was going to be doing a fair amount of walking. I had to drop my car off this morning so I was on foot for a couple of my errands. Pounding the pavement in sandals isn’t my idea of a comfortable time, so I wanted something a bit more sturdy. I also love matching neutral colors like whites, blacks, and grays, in my shoes and tee, but primary colors end up looking a bit too “matchy-matchy”, IMO.
Bag It Up
I’ve preached this many times before, but PLEASE do not be afraid of the man bag. I’m someone who usually has about 10 things to do every day and that requires me to ensure that I have my essentials on hand. Summer outfits don’t have a lot of storage. I typically only carry my phone and my cash in my pockets. My wallet and other things are in my bag. Also, when it’s hot out you don’t want to wear a backpack or a messenger bag because the straps and bag on your back and shoulders will cause you to sweat more in those areas and creates those awkward sweat patches. Find a manly enough tote bag or a briefcase with handles to ensure you will have everything you need without breaking a sweat.
Versatile Accessories
No one does it for me like Timex does. Their styles are so minimalist and classic, while also being so affordable. I think a simple NATO strap watch is absolutely essential, but I can understand if you don’t want to be concerned with the time on the weekend. Stay away from heavier metal bands and chunky designs as they’ll just weigh you down. The whole idea is to feel free and light so you can pop around and stay in a great mood.
I’ve decided I want to start ending my posts with a positive message. I thought a lot about it and came up with “Do it for you, not them.” It’s basically saying that your style, your demeanor, your EVERYTHING is to make you feel like the best version of yourself. There will always be someone who doesn’t get it and decides to talk shit. Remember that they don’t matter. Your opinion of you is what matters most, so let yourself feel great and give yourself the credit you deserve!
Do it for you, not them.
