Happy Monday, everyone!! I hope you all had amazing, eventful, relaxing, fun, debaucherous, (insert descriptive weekend term here) weekends! Now that it’s Monday and time to start the week all over again, I want to show off a little outfit idea I’ve styled with Rodd & Gunn, the same amazing brand from last week’s Weekend Outfit post. My hope with today’s post is that it will inspire you to try something new this week, whether that be at work, on a date, or whatever else you have going on. Looking your best is a great way to really embrace the happiness of summer and I have some tips on how you can achieve said “good lookin’-ness” leading to happiness!

Here we go…If I were you, I would try to…

Set a Base Layer

I’ve mentioned this move before, but one of my favorite go-to approaches to an outfit is using what I call a “base layer”. It’s where you match shirt and pants to allow for whatever else you put on over that to stand out and pop. As you can see, my base layer is all white, with this shirt, and these pants, which I understand might not work for some people’s work environments, but it’s still a fun move to try! It can be any color. Try black or navy and then add a button up shirt or jacket over top to really make the piece stand out.

Avoid White Belts

In a look like this, with all of the matching, it’s fun to also match the shoes to extend the base layer move all the way to the ground. If you can’t do that, try to match your shoes to your belt and be sure the belt contrasts the outfit. It’s a nice way to break up the large amount of one color. This braided belt is really cool and easily adjustable to any size, plus with the bits of navy and brown, it matches everything nicely. If you’re wearing white sneakers like me, don’t wear a white belt. It will look weird. I’m really just not a big fan of white belts.

Mind Your Materials

In the summertime, you always want to be aware of your materials. An outfit like this can get a bit hot, but if you ensure that everything is as lightweight as possible, it will keep you at least somewhat cool. A linen shirt like this one can be your best friend in the summer because it will let air pass through and keep you as comfortable as possible. They can be worn casually or formally, too, so it’s  a  smart move to invest in one. A bold jacket is a perfect piece to wear on top of your base layer. It’s going to make a statement and be the first thing that most people notice. Find something in linen or a lightweight cotton so it’s at least somewhat breathable. You’d be best served to avoid wool during the warmer months.
