As you guys know, I wasn’t able to make it to Coachella this weekend, so myself, the lady and some friends all decided to check out the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale. Long story short, I’m SO glad we did. It was one of the most eclectic groups of people I’ve been surrounded by in such a long time and the experience of it all was beyond memorable.
Every weekend is themed, from Pirates to Time Traveler to Fairies and Pixies. This weekend was Pirates, so attendees of the faire were encouraged to dress in their best pirate inspired garb. Some of the costumes were so authentic it was nearly impossible to decipher between employee and patron. We all dressed up, which essentially let everyone else there know that we were open for business when it came to being involved in the carryings-on of the scenes. Basically put, people were coming up to us left and right talking to us like it was the 1600’s. At first it was intimidating, then it became fun when we got used to it, then eventually it started to get a little bit old, haha. That was on me, though. If you go understanding that they do their best job of creating an authentic world, I have no doubt you’ll be able to fully immerse yourself into it all. It reminded me a lot of the South Park when the kids go to the Pioneer Village and all the people refuse to break character whatsoever…hilarious.
From the giant turkey legs, caramel apples, archery and axe throwing, and hand made leather goods as fine as hands can craft, the “RenFair” was an absolute blast! It’s every Saturday and Sunday until May 17th and if you buy tickets at Walgreens they’re only $25. Don’t let this year’s Faire pass you up because I guarantee that with an open mind and an awesome costume, you’ll have an amazing time.
How do you like our costumes? The “locals” of the Faire were giving me grief for looking a bit too rock and roll and not enough pirate…which I suppose I can agree with, ha. Still so much fun!

Even if this isn’t your thing…get out and experience your city. Everywhere has amazing things happening in the small corners of where you live. The internet is packed with sites that advertise it all too so you have no excuses of not knowing.
Be silly, do something different, you’ll be glad you did!
