This weekend kicks off the start of the massive music and food festival, Coachella, in Indio, CA. The scene of this festival has exploded over the last few years, with clothing stores releasing specific lines catered around the outdoorsy, free-thinking vibe that the festival has established for itself. Unfortunately, I’m not able to attend this year but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to dress myself up as though I was.

For anyone who’s ever been to a festival or seen photos (let’s face it, everyone falls into one of those two categories), you’ve seen some pretty outrageous shit, people who’ve painted themselves, guys dressed in sparkles, girls who have somehow self-crafted a denim thong…the whole thing is awesomely crazy.

I recently picked up these sweet Kabuki shorts from Uniqlo and instantly had Coachella on the brain. They’re drawstring with an elastic waistband and the diamond pattern is pretty great too. I wanted to give you guys an idea as to how you can make something like these work at a festival or for just a normal night out, so I threw together two different outfits.

The first is the all-black inspired getup with this black t-shirt from Uniqlo, black Aldo boots and a vintage black fedora. It’s a pretty simple outfit when you break it down but when combined together it can be a fun way to hit the town in some otherwise crazy shorts.

The festival inspired outfit is a different story. Again, for anyone who’s been to a major festival, you know that your wardrobe is about so much more than just making you look good. You have to take into consideration the weather and the amount of people you’ll be surrounded by as well.

For me, it was a perfect opportunity to bust out my high school track uniform. After all, tank tops are like the tuxedo of festivals. They keep you cool and allow you to catch some sun without being that guy with his shirt off the whole weekend. Also, my American Flag bandana was a must because of the benefits of catching sweat when it gets really hot during the day, but also because American Flags are the coolest…seriously, I have a GIANT one in my apartment. These tube socks from Old Navy match my bandana beautifully, so that was a no-brainer. Lastly, my Timberlands. I would highly recommend wearing shoes that you are really comfortable in on all sorts of terrains but you also aren’t going to care if they get caked in all sorts of earth and man made substances (some will probably be bodily fluids).

I hope  you guys like the looks and the diversity of these great shorts from Uniqlo!
