I had the privilege of spending Easter Sunday at my girlfriend’s boss’ house in Malibu yesterday and I couldn’t possibly have let the opportunity to shoot there slip through my fingers.

What to wear to a beach house or a beach party can be tricky. I know it seems simple enough to throw on a pair of swim trunks and a tank top and call it a day, but for a holiday event you have to take some more consideration.

I couldn’t be happier about the re-emergence of the short sleeved button up shirt as a go-to piece for spring and summer. The once scoffed at piece is now a regularity in any stylish man’s wardrobe and that puts a big smile on my face. I got this simple white one the other day at..believe it or not…Forever 21. I went in there for the first time in years and was blown away by the quality and diversity of their stock. This shirt was only $13 and it fits wonderfully! They have tons of other good stuff that I’d recommend checking out as well. Not to mention, at that price point, if something happens to it or it shrinks, it’s not the end of the world.

Layering a well-fitting hoodie over a button up shirt is something I’ve loved for a long time, too. It’s a great way to stay somewhat dressy while also not being too dressy. This brown one from Alternative is crazy soft and comfortable, the perfect addition to an earthy-toned beach outfit.

Considering I was going to the beach, I didn’t want to be overdressed, so I combined my shirt with a pair of khaki colored jeans from Gap. If you don’t have jeans in colors aside from blue yet, dudes, start shopping. They’re such a great option for times when I want to diversify an outfit without feeling to dressy in chinos or actual dress pants.

Some fun socks and a simple pair of wingtips from Steve Madden and I’m comfortable without being over or under-dressed for a beach day.

What are some of your favorite non-traditional beach getups??

Thanks for reading!
