One of the many fortunate things about living in LA, in my eyes, is the ability to explore all sorts of different avenues when it comes to working out. Having a gym membership and lifting weights is a thing of the past for me because I’m able to go hiking and use my body weight in ways that end up giving me much better personal results (which may vary, everyone’s different…also, no judgies if you’re a gym rat, do you). Urban hiking is a great example of this, with different sets of steps all over the city, it’s easy to break a sweat or simply just get your heart rate up a bit.

I had the privilege of getting my hands on some of Original Penguin’s current line for a shoot and I couldn’t pass it up. If you’re unfamiliar with the brand, they do a lot of retro-inspired menswear with excellent materials and unique designs. The Penguin logo is iconic and is most commonly remembered (by me) as the constant badge of Seth Cohen from “The OC”, who is one of my favorite TV characters of all time.

For my hike yesterday I rocked these incredible Original Penguin B55 Slim Chinos in the Biking Red color. These pants are SO comfortable you’d swear you were wearing well fitted sweatpants. They’re flexible and feel great when moving around. You guys know how I feel about diversifying from denim, so I’d highly recommend checking these out.

The detailed jacket is also from Penguin. The little penguins, palm trees, flowers and martini glasses add a hint of detail that is going to catch everyone’s eye without being so in your face that it’s offensive. It’s lightweight enough to not overheat you but still heavy enough to keep your body temperature just right. Whether you zip it fully or leave it open, it hangs well because of the cut and fit. Lightweight jackets are essential during spring and this is one I’d definitely recommend checking out.

These comfortable, functional pieces combined with some work boots from Aldo, a lightweight shirt from the H&M Beckham collection and a cap from The Knottery NY and you’re ready to get your Urban Hike on! Just remember to get active and enjoy yourself.

What are some of your favorite ways to stay active while staying out of the gym??

Stay happy, my friends!
