“Back to school…back to school…to prove to Dad that I’m not a fool.” – Billy Madison

When I threw this look together I immediately thought of how much it made me feel like I was back in school wearing a uniform. Given, mine was much rattier and ill-fitting, but the polo and cardigan combo is unmistakable.

Simplicity is the name of the game sometimes, this outfit being a key example. I’ve been wanting to bust out a polo on the blog for awhile now and finally figured out how I could make it work for me. Buttoning up all of the buttons takes a polo to the next level, in my opinion. It becomes an awesome layering piece that can be built onto with a blazer, casual jacket or cardigan, like here. This Banana Republic cardigan has been in my rotation for years. I love it because it has notes of retro inspiration due to the stripes on the sleeves, but the color scheme is a bit more noir than classic varsity sweaters.

Also, if you don’t already have a pair, I’d highly suggest investing in some coated black denim. They’re crazy comfortable once broken in and they give a slight hint of dressiness to your outfit because of the sheen of the material.

The pop of color from these sweet maroon Chuck low tops is a fun way to stand out and be more comfortable. After all, my shoe addiction is blamed entirely on the fact that growing up wearing a uniform, sneakers were the only way to stand out from the pack. This outfit accomplishes that well.

Are you a fan of throwing it back to the days of yore? Would you rock this outfit?

Stay happy, my friends!
