It’s cooling off in LA!!! I’ve been shouting it from the canyon tops due to utter glee. After the hottest summer since I moved here, I’ve been anxiously awaiting the opportunity to bust out some outerwear and winter accessories.
Today I’m talking about my favorite new alteration, Pirate Sleeves. As you saw in the photo, this flannel (from K-mart, yes, K-Mart, dudes!) has been trimmed down to a 3/4 length sleeve with raw edges. I love this shirt so much because it’s crazy comfortable but also so easy to be active in or dress up.
As you can see with the trench coat over top, the shirt plays normally with the outfit if I want it to. All I did was cut the cuffs off the sleeve just below the upper buttons, so as to leave a bit of detailing, and voila, I have comfy, functional Pirate Sleeves!
Let’s be honest fellas, most of us have that shirt (or shirts) that’s been sitting in our closet for years because it doesn’t fit quite right, but we don’t want to trash it or donate it because there’s sentimental value or the comfort level is off the charts. That’s exactly what happened in my case too, so I chose to take the necessary measures to fix my problem and create a new favorite piece!
Most of us are getting ready to go on holiday break from work or school, right? There’s no better time than now to go through your closet and find a perfect shirt for altering! If you don’t have one, go to the thrift store or K-Mart and grab something cheap to play around with, it may end up as your most coveted shirt! (I get questions/compliments on this one almost every time I wear it)
