As the weather gets cooler, one of the easiest ways to ensure that you’re staying comfortable while also looking and feeling good is layering. If you’re unfamiliar, layering is the act of using several different pieces of clothing on top of one another in order to stay warm. It’s a great way to combine otherwise somewhat lightweight pieces into a combined shell of warmth and style.

For this layered look, my entire outfit came from Walmart. Not only was I impressed by how good their selection was, but the quality of the pieces at the prices they go for is borderline shocking.

Let’s start from the outside and work our way inwards, and then down. This olive green field jacket is one of my favorite colors for fall. Also, it’s $13 at Walmart! That’s crazy affordable for a piece like this. What colors come to mind when you think fall? For me, they’re earth tones. Greens, browns, oranges, navy blues – warm tones that are reminiscent of the shades you see in nature. With a jacket like this, you have to keep in mind that it’s not all that heavy on its own. When the temperatures really start to dip you’ll get a little cold wearing it over a tee. That’s where layering comes in.  Layering allows you to still wear each piece comfortably while also giving you the opportunity to remove individual layers if the temperature fluctuates.

Cue this army brown hoodie from Walmart. It fits in with the earth tone color palette that I’m going for in my outfit and it adds an extra layer of warmth underneath the jacket. If you’re going out for a full day of activities and you know you’ll be gone into the evening, you could easily tie the sweatshirt around your waist during the day and only wear the jacket. Then once it cools down, add in the sweatshirt to stay warm but not sacrifice style. Also, it’s stylish on its own so you could wear it as a piece of outerwear during the early fall when it’s not quite cold enough to necessitate a jacket.

Finally, in rounding out the outfit, you can’t go wrong with a pair of slim fit navy chino pants. They’re such a nice alternative to jeans that sort of just feel more “fall” to me. Not to mention this pair is only $16 from Walmart! Navy blue is such a versatile color and I really enjoy the way they tend to class up a look like this. Wearing jeans with this hoodie and jacket would relay a very different vibe than these chinos. If you’re wanting to look a bit different than everybody else who’s probably wearing a lot of denim and khaki, some navy chinos are a great choice.

So there you have it, folks! A quick lesson on layering and how you can be incorporating it into your fall outfits to look great while also staying warm. Don’t give in to cold weather and simply throw on a heavy coat. Work with different types of pieces like these from Walmart and learn how you can create totally different vibes by layering.

Thanks to Walmart for sponsoring today’s post. Not gonna lie, I was extremely impressed with their selection and prices, guys. Highly recommend checking them out – especially as you’re learning about your own style because you don’t have to break the bank to try out different things.
